Reading Ayatul Kursi
We have already done one lesson regarding what to read after every fardh salaah. Click here to read more.
There is another action we will learn today which will take us straight to Jannah! Interested? Well, let’s quickly find out and start doing this action.
Our beloved Nabi ﷺ has taught us that:
“Whoever recites Ayat al-Kursi after every Salaah, the only barrier between him and Jannah is death.” (Sunan Nasa’i)
This means that by reading Ayatul Kursi after every fardh salaah, the only thing that will be stopping us from entering Jannah will be death. That is how certain Jannah will become for us. Amazing right?
What is Ayatul Kursi?
Ayatul Kursi is a verse found in Surah Baqarah. It is the 255th verse in this surah (Another way to find it, is to go to the 3rd Juzz in the Quran and it is the 3rd verse).

That’s all we need to do! Easy right?
Ayatul Kursi is a very special verse in the Quran, and has lots more benefits, here are a few:
- It has been referred to as the greatest verse in the Glorious Quran (Muslim)
- Surah Baqarah is the peak of the Quran and it contains a verse which is the leader of all verses (this verse is ayatul kursi) (Tirmidhi)
- By reading it at home, shaytan runs away from the home (Mustadrak Hakim)
- By reading it before sleeping, Allah Ta’aala sends an angel to protect us. (Sahih Bukhari)
Abu Hurairah and his captive
Abu Hurairah رضي الله عنه was once ordered by our beloved Nabi ﷺ to look after some zakat which had been collected over Ramadan. While he was on duty, a person came to steal from the zakat. Abu Hurairah رضي الله عنه was quick to get to him and caught hold of him saying, “I will take you to Rasulullah ﷺ!”
Hearing this, the man became scared and asked to be shown mercy. He offered Abu Hurairah رضي الله عنه some words which would benefit Abu Hurairah رضي الله عنه.
Abu Hurairah رضي الله عنه agreed and the man said that before going to sleep if you read Ayatul Kursi Allah will protect you all night long, and furthermore, shaytan will not be able to come near you till morning.
Aby Hurairah wasn’t sure if he was being honest or lying, but as he had given his word he let him go.
He came into the company of our beloved Nabi ﷺ and narrated the entire story. Our beloved Nabi ﷺ listened to the entire incident and then said that this man was in fact shaytan who had come in human form! Our beloved Nabi ﷺ further explained that on Shaytaan is a liar and so should never be trusted but on this one occasion he has spoken the truth.
(Incident recorded on Sahih Al-Bukhari)
Moral:
From this story, we learn the special benefit of Ayatul Kursi. Many of us feel scared at night, but with ayatul kursi, we have nothing to be scared of. Ayatul Kursi will always keep us safe Insha’ Allah.
A few other lessons we learn:
1) Once we give our word to someone and make a deal, we should stick to our word.
2) When someone tells us something, we should always check with our teachers and ulama to verify if it is correct or not.
3) Shaytan is very mischievous and shouldn’t be trusted
