The Benefits of Sleeping with Wudhu
A believer tries to remain with wudhu at all times. Our beloved Nabi ﷺ advised us to even sleep in the state of wudhu.
This is a very simple act but carries many special benefits. Let us take a look at a few:
Benefit 1
The soul is allowed to do sajdah before Allah Ta’ala
Sayyiduna Abu Darda رضي الله عنه reports that our beloved Nabi ﷺ said:
“When a person sleeps, his soul (ruh) rises to the throne (Arsh) of Allah. If he slept with wudu, the soul is permitted to make sajdah (by the Arsh of Allah), and if he slept in the state of impurity, permission for sajdah is refused.
(Kitabuz Zuhd of Ibnul Mubarak)
Benefit 2
An angel makes dua during the night
Abu Hurairah رضي الله عنه reports that our beloved Nabi ﷺ said:
“Whoever retired for the night in a state of purity, an angel will reside with him in his bed. He will not awaken for an hour in the night but that the angel says: O Allah, forgive this servant of yours, for he retired in a state of purity.”
(Al-Da’wat al-Kabir)
Benefit 3
If a person passes away while sleeping, due to being in the state of wudhu (at the time of sleeping) he will pass away a martyr.
Our beloved Nabi ﷺ said to Sayyiduna Anas رضي الله عنه:
O my son! If you can, then remain in the state of wudhu continuously, for if death comes to someone in the state of wudhu, he acquires Shahadah (the rank of the martyrs)
(Musnad Abi Ya’la)
Benefit 4
(If he passes away during sleep) The soul will be raised (on the day of Qiyamah) in a pure condition.
Sayyiduna Abdullah Ibn Abbas رضي الله عنه advised:
“Ensure that you spend the nights in wudhu, for the souls will be raised in the condition [of purity] that they were taken in.”
(Musannaf ‘Abdur Razzaq)
Let’s start sleeping with wudhu and feel happy knowing we are gaining all these amazing benefits!
