The Mother Bird who Showed Mercy

The Mother Bird who Showed Mercy

On one occasion a sahabi came to our beloved Nabi ﷺ. He had something which he had wrapped in a cloth and was holding it in his hand. After meeting our beloved Nabi ﷺ he was excited to show our beloved Nabi ﷺ what he had. He was even more excited to share the incident that had just taken place.

The sahabi opened the cloth and our beloved Nabi ﷺ saw some baby birds accompanied by their mother. The sahabi then explained that he had come across the baby birds when walking past a bush. He had taken the babies and left the mother she had been free to fly away, however she did not give up on her babies and kept circling the sahabi until he had allowed her to join her babies.

Our beloved Nabi ﷺ told the sahabi to put the cloth with the birds down. The mother bird stayed with the baby birds and did not leave them.

Our beloved Nabi ﷺ then explained to the sahaba sitting around that Allah Ta’ala shows more mercy to his servants than what this mother bird is showing her babies.

Our beloved Nabi ﷺ then asked the sahabi to go return the birds to where he found them.

Moral:

From this incident, we learn how merciful Allah Ta’ala is.

We all show mercy to one and other in one way or another. Some more than others. None can show more mercy than Allah Ta’ala himself.

We should therefore at all times try to obey Allah Ta’ala and if we make a mistake we should not lose hope but rather quickly turn to Allah and ask for forgiveness.

From this story, we also learn how merciful our beloved Nabi ﷺ was, from the way he instructed the sahabi to return the birds where he had found them.

We too should always show kindness to everyone and everything around us. It is hoped that by us showing mercy and kindness to the creation, Allah will show mercy and kindness to us.
