Hadeeth Seventeen

Do not become angry

لاَ تَغْضَبْ

Our Beloved Nabi ﷺ said,

“Do not become angry”

Bukhari

Explanation

Everyone feels angry and it is natural to feel angry. However, anger can make us do things we later regret like hurting someone, breaking something or even losing someone close to us. Many a times, anger makes us do things which makes Allah Ta’ala unhappy with us.

For this reason, in this Hadeeth our beloved Nabi ﷺ has advised us to control our anger and not allow it to control us.

See also True strength is in controlling anger

What we learn from this Hadeeth:

1) Although it is natural to become angry, we have to learn to control our anger.

2) When we are angry, we do not think clearly and do or say things we later regret.

3) When we are angry, Shaytan controls us and enjoys seeing us make mistakes.

4) Our aim is to avoid getting angry, but if we do get angry then we have to control the anger.

5) When we control our anger, Allah becomes really happy with us and even rewards us!

Ways we can control our anger:

Our beloved Nabi ﷺ has taught us many amazing ways to control our anger. So the next time we get angry, let’s try these:

1) Read Ta’awwuz:
أَعُوْذُ بِاللّٰهِ مِنَ الشَّيْطَانِ الرَّجِيْمِ
(I seek protection from Shaytan)

2) Remain silent. If it helps, take a deep breath and count to 10.

3) Walk away if possible.

4) Change position. If standing up, sit down and if sitting down, recline back towards a position of lying down.

5) If possible perform Wudhu.

6) Remind yourself of the following two very special rewards of controlling anger:

“Whoever controls his anger at the time when he has the means to act upon it,

1. Allah will fill his heart with contentment on the Day of Resurrection.” (Tabarani)

2. Allah will call him before all of mankind on the Day of Qiyamah (Resurrection), and will let him choose from the Hoorul ’Iyn – Wives of Jannah.” (Abu Dawud)

Let’s Talk Fireworks!

Fireworks are enjoyed in many countries across the world.

While fireworks may look beautiful and seem like harmless fun, it’s important to pause and think about their effects. As Muslims, we are encouraged to reflect and always see whether something brings benefit or harm to us in this world and especially in the Hereafter.

Udhiya/Qurbani – Eidul Adha

Udhiyah/Qurbani
(Eidul Adha)

What is Udhiyah?

Udhiyah means to sacrifice a special animal only for Allah Ta’ala during the days of Eid al-Adha. We do this to remember the obedience of Prophet Ibraheem ʼalayhis-salām.

Verse of the Qur’an:

“So pray to your Lord and sacrifice.” (Surah al-Kawthar 108:2)

Why Do We Do Udhiyah?

– To show love and obedience to Allah Ta’ala

– To follow the Sunnah of Prophet Ibraheem ʼalayhis-salām

– To feed the poor and share happiness
Hadeeth:

Our beloved Nabi ﷺ said: “The animal reaches Allah before its blood touches the ground.” (Tirmidhi)

Who Must Give Udhiyah?

Udhiyah is necessary for every adult Muslim who:

1) Is not travelling

2) Has enough savings (equal to or more than Nisab)

3) Is sane and mature

When is Udhiyah Done?

Udhiyah is done on: – 10th Dhul-Hijjah (best) – 11th or 12th Dhul-Hijjah (also allowed) – It must be done after Eid salah, not before!
Which Animals Can Be Used: ✅

❌ Blind or missing a third of its eye

❌ Missing large parts of its ear, tail or teeth

❌ Lame or too weak to walk

❌ Extremely thin or sick

How to Do the Sacrifice?

1) Say “Bismillahi Allahu Akbar”  2) Use a sharp knife and be quick – Do not hurt the animal or scare it – Do not sharpen the knife in front of it

What To Do With the Meat?

Divide it into 3 parts:

– One part for your family

– One part for relatives and friends

– One part for the poor

Extra Rewards

Every hair of the sacrificed animal brings reward! Udhiyah is a beloved act in the sight of Allah Ta’ala. It also brings us closer to the Sunnah.
Hadeeth:

Sayyidah A’ishah رضي الله عنها reports that Rasulullah ﷺ said, ‘There is nothing dearer to Allah during the days of Qurbani than the sacrificing of animals. The sacrificed animal shall come on the Day of Qiyamah with its horns, hair, and hooves (to be weighed on a persons good deeds). The sacrifice is accepted by Allah before the blood reaches the ground. Therefore sacrifice with an open and happy heart.

(Tirmidhi)

Love for Rasoolullah صلى الله عليه وسلم

The Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم sacrificed animals on behalf of his Ummah. Sayyiduna ‘Ali رضي الله عنه would also sacrifice one for himself and one for the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم. We can do the same and earn great reward, inshaAllah.

Angry Ahmad and the bag of Nails

By Mawlana Junayd Makda Sahib

Angry Ahmad and the bag of Nails

Once there was a boy named Ahmad who would get very angry when things didn’t go his way. He would clench his fists, stomp his feet, and sometimes even break things. His family and friends didn’t like being around him because of his outbursts. One day, Ahmad’s mother gave him a bag of shiny nails and told him to hammer one into the fence whenever he got angry. Ahmad found this very strange but followed his mother’s wise advice. At first, he hammered a lot of nails into the fence, and very quickly, the fence began to fill up with nails. This continued for a few weeks until one day, Ahmad decided to try something different. He chose to take deep breaths, drink some water, or even perform wudhu to help him calm down whenever he felt angry. As the days went by, he found himself staying more and more in control, and very soon, he went days and weeks without getting angry. As Ahmad controlled his anger, something amazing happened. People around him treated him better, and his relationships improved. His friends started inviting him to play more often, and his family expressed their happiness at seeing him happier and more in control. One day, Ahmad’s mother asked him to remove a nail from the fence for each day he went without getting angry. Ahmad eagerly agreed and started pulling out the nails, one by one. When he had removed all the nails, his mother asked him to look at the fence and see all the holes left behind. To his amazement, the fence was full of holes. “What do you see, my dear?” his mother asked. Ahmad thought for a moment and replied, ‘I see that my anger made these holes, and they’re not easy to fix.’ His mother smiled and said, ‘That’s right, Ahmad. When we let our anger control us, it can leave lasting marks on ourselves and others. But when we take the time to control our anger, we can avoid causing harm.’ Ahmad understood the important lesson his mother had taught him. From that day forward, he continued to work on controlling his anger. He realised that by staying calm and not letting anger take over, he could make his world a happier and kinder place.
