Du’a when entering and leaving the home
The number of times we go in and out of the house, we will easily lose count. But are we safe and protected?
There are two very simple Du’as we can read to gain the protection of Allah Ta’ala!
Du’a when leaving the home
بِسْمِ اللّٰهِ تَوَكَّلْتُ عَلَى اللّٰهِ، لَا حَوْلَ وَلَا قُوَّةَ إِلَّا بِاللّٰهِ
Bismillaahi tawakkaltu ‘alallaah, laa hawla wa laa quwwata illaa billaah
Translation: “In the Name of Allah, I rely on Allah; There is no might and no power except from Allah.” [Abu Dawud]
When a person reads this Du’a: A caller will call out: ‘Indeed you have been guided, Allah will be enough for you, and you have been saved’. The Shaytaan moves away from him and says “how will you misguide one that has been guided and saved?” (Abu Dawud)
Du’a when entering the home
Allahumma innee as’aluka khayral mawliji wa khayral makhraji bismillahi walajna wa bismillahi kharajna wa alallahi rabbina tawakkalna.
Translation: “O Allah, I ask of you a good entry and a good exit. In the name of Allah, we enter and in the name of Allah we exit and upon Allah, our sustainer do we keep our trust.” [Abu Dawud]
Note: A person may also read only ‘Bismillah’ and this too will result in Shaytaan staying away. However, there is more benefit and virtue of reading the full Du’a.
Sayyiduna Jabir Ibn ‘Abdullah رضي الله عنه has narrated that he heard the Prophet ﷺ say:
“When a man enters his house and mentions Allah when he enters and when he eats, the Shaytaan says (to other Shayateen):
‘You have no place to stay and no dinner.’
But if he enters and does not mention Allah when he enters, the Shaytaan says, ‘You have found a place to stay.’
And if he does not mention Allah when he eats, he says: ‘You have found a place to stay and dinner.’” (Muslim)
Benefits of reading the Du’a when entering and leaving the home:
1) We are under Allah Ta’ala’s protection.
2) We are safeguarded from Shaytaan.
3) We are placing our trust in Allah Ta’ala.
4) We are asking of Allah Ta’ala and showing humility.
5) Allah Ta’ala becomes happy with us.
6) We are practicing a Sunnah of our beloved Nabi ﷺ.
7) We will be rewarded for our action.
