What to read before sleeping – Part 3

What to read before sleeping (Part 3)

When getting into bed after a long tiring day, we naturally just want to fall asleep. However, it’s a beautiful habit to remember Allah Ta’ala and connect with Him before we fall asleep.

Our amazing Nabi ﷺ has taught us many practices, Adhkar, Dua’s and Surahs from the Qur’an through which we can connect with Allah Ta’ala and gain many amazing benefits. To make it easy we will learn a few of these at a time.

Then read the following:

1.) Read the following and if death comes while sleeping then be guaranteed death on Imaan insha’allah!

(for translation and transliteration please refer to the Hadeeth)

Al-Bara ibn ‘Azib said: our beloved Nabi ﷺ said: “When you go to bed, do wudu as if for Salah, then lie down on your right side, then say: ‘ Allahumma aslamtu nafsee ilayk, wa wajjahtu wajhee ilayk, wa fawwadtu amree ilayk, wa alja’tu dhahree ilayk, raghbatan wa rahbatan ilayk, la malja’a wa la manja’a minka illa ilayk. Amantu bi kitabikalladhi anzalt, wa bi nabiyyikalladhi arsalt (O Allah, I submit myself to You, I turn my face to You, I delegate my affairs to You and I rely totally on You, out of fear and hope of You. There is no refuge or sanctuary from You except in You. I believe in Your Book which You have revealed and in Your Prophet whom You have sent).’ Then if you die, you will have died on the fitrah , (referring to Iman), so make these the last words you speak.”… (Bukhari, Muslim)

2.) Read the following:

(for translation and transliteration please refer to the Hadeeth)

Abu Hurayrah radhiyallahu anhu has said that our beloved Nabi ﷺ said:

“When one of you goes to his bed, let him dust off his bed with the inside of his lower garment, for he does not know what came onto it after he left it. Then let him say: Bismika Rabbi wada’tu janbi wa bika arfa’uhu wa in amsakta nafsi farhamha wa in arsaltaha fahfazha bima tuhfaz bihi ‘ibadika al-saaliheen (In Your name, my Lord, I lie down, and in Your name I rise. If You should take my soul then have mercy on it, and if You should return my soul then protect it as You protect Your righteous slaves).”. (Bukhari, Muslim)

3.) Read three times:

(for translation and transliteration please refer to the Hadeeth)

It was narrated from Hafsah radhiyallahu anha that when our beloved Nabi ﷺ wanted to sleep, he would put his right hand under his right cheek, then he would say: “Allahumma qini ‘adhabaka yawma tab’ath ‘ibadaka” (O Allah, protect me from Your punishment on the Day You resurrect Your slaves) three times. (Abu Dawud)
