Daily Lesson 82

This Weeks Dua

Dua for boarding any means of transport

Travelling from place to place is a part of everyone’s day to day routine.

Some travel by walking, while others on bikes, scooters, motorbikes, cars, vans, trucks, busses, coaches, trains, ships, planes and some places animals too. These are all forms of transport to take us from one place to another.

All of these forms of transportation are a great blessing from Allah Ta’ala which make life so much more easier for us. For this reason, our amazing Nabi ﷺ taught us the following dua, which we should all memorise and read every time we board a vehicle or any form of transport.

Dua for boarding any means of transport

Al-ḥamdu lillaah, al-ḥamdu lillaah, al-ḥamdu lillaah, allaahu akbar, allaahu akbar, allaahu akbar, subhanaka innee thalamtu nafsee faghfir lee, fa innahu laa yaghfir-udh-dhunooba illaa ant

Translation: “In the name of Allah, All praise be to Allah, Glory be Him who has caused this (transport) to be under our control though we were unable to control it. And surely we will return to our lord. All praise is for Allah, All praise is for Allah, All praise is for Allah, Allah is the greatest, Allah is the greatest, Allah is the greatest. Glory be to you, Indeed I have wronged myself, so forgive me, for surely none can forgive sins except You.”

Did you know?

There are some angels whose only job is to protect others from harms, disasters and calamities! So it’s not just by chance if we are saved but by Allah Ta’ala is protecting us!

Virtues for Travelling for Islamic knowledge

Kathir Ibn Qays رحمة الله عليه says: I was sitting with Sayyiduna Abud Darda’ رضي الله عنه in the masjid of Damascus.

A man came to him and said: “O Abud Darda, I have come to you from the Madeenah the city of Rasoolullah ﷺ to acquire a hadeeth (from you) that I have heard you relate from the messenger of Allah ﷺ. I have come for no other purpose.

(This man had travelled all the way from Madeenah to Damuscas, that is over 1300 km, for only this one hadeeth and nothing else!)

Sayyiduna Abud Darda رضي الله عنه said:
‘I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say:

“If anyone travels on a road in search of knowledge,

a) Allah will cause him to travel on one of the roads of Paradise.
b) The angels will lower their wings in their great pleasure with one who seeks knowledge,
c) The inhabitants of the heavens and the earth and the fish in the deep waters will ask forgiveness for the learned man…”

So dear children when you go to learn Qur’an from a teacher, or you attend a maktab/madrasah you also qualify for this special virtue. So make the most of every opportunity and attend with regularity.
