Udhiya/Qurbani – Eidul Adha

Udhiyah/Qurbani
(Eidul Adha)

What is Udhiyah?

Udhiyah means to sacrifice a special animal only for Allah Ta’ala during the days of Eid al-Adha. We do this to remember the obedience of Prophet Ibraheem ʼalayhis-salām.

“So pray to your Lord and sacrifice.” (Surah al-Kawthar 108:2)

Why Do We Do Udhiyah?

– To show love and obedience to Allah Ta’ala

– To follow the Sunnah of Prophet Ibraheem ʼalayhis-salām

– To feed the poor and share happiness

Our beloved Nabi ﷺ said: “The animal reaches Allah before its blood touches the ground.” (Tirmidhi)

Udhiyah is necessary for every adult Muslim who:

1) Is not travelling

– Do not hurt the animal or scare it

– Do not sharpen the knife in front of it

What To Do With the Meat?

Divide it into 3 parts:

– One part for your family

– One part for relatives and friends

– One part for the poor

Extra Rewards

Every hair of the sacrificed animal brings reward! Udhiyah is a beloved act in the sight of Allah Ta’ala. It also brings us closer to the Sunnah.

Sayyidah A’ishah رضي الله عنها reports that Rasulullah ﷺ said, ‘There is nothing dearer to Allah during the days of Qurbani than the sacrificing of animals. The sacrificed animal shall come on the Day of Qiyamah with its horns, hair, and hooves (to be weighed on a persons good deeds). The sacrifice is accepted by Allah before the blood reaches the ground. Therefore sacrifice with an open and happy heart.

(Tirmidhi)

Love for Rasoolullah صلى الله عليه وسلم

The Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم sacrificed animals on behalf of his Ummah.

Sayyiduna ‘Ali رضي الله عنه would also sacrifice one for himself and one for the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم.

We can do the same and earn great reward, inshaAllah.

Let’s Make Eid Special! Prepare for Udhiyah with love. Share your blessings. Please Allah Ta’ala with your sacrifice.
