His Blessed Recitation of the Qur’an

Sayyiduna Anas رضي الله عنه when describing our beloved Nabi ﷺ’s recitation of the Glorious Qur’an says that our beloved Nabi ﷺ recited in such a manner that he would stretch the madd (Long vowels). (Bukhari)

Note : Hafiz Ibn Hajar رحمه الله says in his commentary of Bukhari that the madd mentioned here is Madd Asli. (Fathul-Baari)

Sayyidah Umm Salamah رضي الله عنها says that when our beloved Nabi ﷺ recited Qur’an every letter was heard clearly and each letter was pronounced distinctly from the next letter. (Shama’il)

Reciting Aloud or Quietly or silently

Sayyidah A’ishah رضي الله عنها says that our beloved Nabi ﷺ recited in both ways, (loudly at times and silently at other times). (Shama’il)

Sayyiduna Abdullah Ibn Abbas رضي الله عنه narrates that when our beloved Nabi ﷺ recited Qur’an in the inner portion of his home, his recitation could be heard in other parts of the home. (Shama’il)

Our beloved Nabi ﷺ’s voice

Our beloved Nabi ﷺ had a very beautiful voice. Qatadah رحمه الله says that Allah Ta’ala blessed all prophets with beautiful features and a beautiful voice. (Shama’il)

Once Barra رضي الله عنه performed salah behind our beloved Nabi ﷺ. He says our beloved Nabi ﷺ recited Surah at-Tin and (the recitation was so beautiful that) he had never heard anybody recite more beautifully than our beloved Nabi ﷺ. (Bukhari)

Note: we should aim to recite the Qur’an as beautifully as possible. Our beloved Nabi ﷺ has said, ‘Beautify the Qur’an with your voices.’ (Bukhari)

Listening to the recitation of others.

Sayyiduna Abdullah Ibn Mas’ud رضي الله عنه says that our beloved Nabi ﷺ requested him to recite a portion of the Qur’an. Sayyiduna Abdullah Ibn Mas’ud رضي الله عنه asked: ‘Should I recite it to you when it has been revealed upon you?’ Our beloved Nabi ﷺ replied saying: ‘I desire to listen to it’s recital from someone else’. (Bukhari)

Sayyidah Fatimah az-Zahraa رضي الله عنها narrates that Jibril عليه السلام would recite the Qur’an to Rasulullah ﷺ once during Ramadhan. However, in the year that Rasulullah ﷺ passed away, he recited it twice to Rasulullah ﷺ. (Sahih Muslim)

Regarding verses of happiness and warnings

Sayyiduna Huzayfah رضي الله عنه once joined our beloved Nabi ﷺ in optional salah at night. He says whenever our beloved Nabi ﷺ came across a verse referring to Allah’s Mercy, he would beg for mercy and if he read a verse regarding punishment he would seek protection. (Abu Dawud)

Replying to certain words of the Qur’an

Sayyiduna Abdullah Ibn Abbas رضي الله عنه says that when our beloved Nabi ﷺ recited the verse ‘Sabbihisma rabbikal A’la’ (Glorify the name of your Lord most High) He would say, Subhana Rabbiyal A’ala. (Abu Dawud)

These were just a few examples of the blessed recitation of our most beautiful, most perfect and most special Nabi ﷺ, who is a perfect role model for us all.
