The Intelligent boy

By Mawlana Junayd Makda Sahib

The intelligent boy who wouldn’t be careful

Ali was a very talented young boy. He was extremely bright and would always get the best grades in his class.

However, there was one problem. Ali wasn’t patient and would always rush through his work, not paying attention to the quality and standard of his work.

Because he was bright, he’d get away with it and get good marks.

His teachers would always remind him saying, “Ali, you are so talented and could do even better if you’d slow down a little and take time to improve the quality of your work”.

Ali would not pay much attention to this, and would continue the same way.

As the school year came to an end, they had to all give one final test. This was the one that counted. All children were nervous but Ali was the most relaxed. Like always he rushed through the test and put his hand up to show everyone he was the first one to complete it.

The teacher said, “Ali, there’s still time, check through your paper”. Ali didn’t listen and just watched the clock ticking away.

The papers were collected in and after marking them the results were put on the board.

To everyone’s amazement, Ali was nowhere near the top. He had dropped to 10th. The whole class was shocked, Ali was embarrassed and very upset.

He blamed the teacher saying, “You have marked my test incorrectly. I always get the highest mark and I always know everything. How is it that I have got it wrong?” The teacher said, “Ali, I always tell you to take your time. Finally, today it has caught up with you”.

Ali could not understand what had happened. The teacher took Ali’s exam paper and showed him all of the questions that he had answered and he had answered them all correctly! Ali said, “See! I told you I have got everything right, I knew it…”, but before Ali could complete his sentence his teacher turned the exam paper over and at the back of the exam paper there were still more questions. Ali hadn’t taken the time to turn over and look at the back of the paper. He could not believe what he had done, but he had learnt his lesson the hard way, and from that day he started to do things properly and not rush them.

Moral:

Dear Children, there is a time for everything. Sometimes when we’re short on time we must rush, but rushing does not mean being careless. A believer is always careful and plans what he is going to do and does it properly.

Also, sometimes our elders tell us something, but we don’t understand. We realise after we’ve made the mistake, but by then it’s too late.

So, from now on, we need to learn to do things properly without any rush. This will lead to fewer mistakes and better results insha’allah
