Make Chocolate Date Truffles

Make Chocolate Date Truffles

We have a very exciting activity for you.

We will be making Chocolate Date Truffles which is made using dates which our beloved Nabi ﷺ liked and ate regularly.

Sunnah of Dates

Let us first learn a little about this special sunnah food.

● Dates are from the many food items our beloved Nabi ﷺ enjoyed and praised

● We should eat dates regularly with the intention of it being from amongst the Sunnah foods and also use it in recipes where possible.

● Our beloved Nabi ﷺ said:
“People in a house without dates are in a state of hunger.” (Muslim)

● Our beloved Nabi ﷺ ate dates in the following manner:

1) Our beloved Nabi ﷺ would open the date to remove its pit (and check it was clean and had no insects).

2) He would remove the pit with his index finger and thumb.

3) He would eat odd number of dates.

● TRY THIS! Eat dates with other food items with cooling properties. Some examples of how our beloved Nabi ﷺ ate dates is:

Dates with cream
Dates with cucumber
Dates with watermelon or muskmelon
Dates with ghee, butter or cheese

● He would soak dates in water and drink that water.

● From the many types of dates, ‘Ajwa’ has been praised:

● It is from paradise

● Eat 7 Ajwa dates in the morning, it will save you from poison or black magic till the evening.

Now let use dates and make our delicious chocolate date truffles!

What You’ll Need

You will need:

● 2 cups of pitted dates

● 1 cup coconut flakes

● 2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder.

There are lots of ways you can vary this recipe. We will demonstrate one variation and show you a few other options. For our variation, we will be using 1/2 cup pecans!

Let’s get started!

Bismillah!

Ingredients and Method

Ingredients

2 cups pitted dates

2 tablespoons of cocoa powder

1 cup coconut flakes plus more for coating

2 tablespoons of water

Method

1. Place the dates, cocoa powder and 1 tablespoon of water into the food processor. If you are adding nuts add them in at this point.

2. Process till it comes together, you can add one more tablespoon if it won’t come together. It’s unlikely you will need a third but if your dates are hard and won’t process then you can add a third tablespoon of water.

3. Mix in the coconut flakes

4. Make equal sized balls. If the mixture is very soft and sticky then don’t worry… Add in extra coconut or nuts to firm it up a bit. Don’t make it too firm though or the truffles will be very hard. The mixture will stick to your hands when making your balls so be patient.

5. Once all the balls are made coat in more coconut flakes.

6. Your truffles are ready to eat!

Tips

● Don’t add too much water when blending. Start with 1 tablespoon first. Then add the other 2 only if you need to.

● It’s quite a rich snack so make smaller balls for younger children.
