Daily Lesson 4

Saying Jazakallah

Whenever anyone does something for us and we need to thank them, the best words we can say to them are Jazakallah

Jazakallah means, ‘May Allah reward you’

By saying Jazakallah:
1) We will get reward for remembering Allah Ta’aala (making zikr)

2) We will get the reward of following a sunnah

3) We are telling Allah to reward the person who has been kind to us.

Lesson of the Day by Mawlana Junayd Makda Sahib

Today we are going to learn about a great companion of our beloved Rasool ﷺ. He is best known as Umar Al Farooq رضي الله عنه

  • Umar the son of Al-Khattab was a very close and loyal companion of our beloved Nabi ﷺ.  He was very well known for his strength and bravery and this struck fear in the hearts of the enemy, even shaytan feared him. He had a very strong personality and whenever someone saw him they would immediately begin to fear him. Despite this, he was always fearful of Allah Ta’aala
  • He was very soft and compassionate at heart. Normally people that are brave and strong they are also very hard-hearted and they do not very easily humble themselves but Umar رضي الله عنه had a very unique personality and this combination of having strength and being soft-hearted made him very unique not only in the companions of our beloved Nabi ﷺ but in the history of people that have passed.
  • His entry into Islam is also a very unique part of history because before he entered into Islam he used to hate Islam and Nabi ﷺ but once he entered into Islam this extreme hatred which he had it suddenly changed and it became extreme love for Nabi ﷺ.
  • He accepted Islam in the 6th year of prophethood and this was as a result of our dua of our Nabi ﷺ. Shortly after Umar رضي الله عنه entered the fold of Islam, one of the first things which he encouraged the Muslims to do was to worship openly. He gave courage to the Muslims and because of this open courage of Umar رضي الله عنه he was given the title Al-Farooq by Our beloved Nabi ﷺ, which means “the one who distinguishes between right and wrong”.
  • His love for Nabi ﷺ had no bounds and throughout his life, he stood as a pillar of support for him throughout his blessed life. After the demise of Abu Bakr رضي الله عنه he became the second Khalifa and remained Khalifa for 10 and a half years and took this responsibility with great devotion and during his time of Khalifa, we remember them as the golden era for Islam, in which time Islam spread further from Arabia to Iraq, Syria, Palestine and to Egypt.
  • He was martyred at the age of 63 and is buried next to our beloved Nabi ﷺ and he was also honoured like Abu Bakr Siddiq رضي الله عنه that he was buried next to Rasulullah ﷺ
