Daily Lesson 202
Virtues of praying in the Masjid
The Masajid (Mosques) are very special places which Allah Ta’ala has placed on earth for His servants to remember Him and worship Him in.
There are various virtues which our beloved Nabi ﷺ has mentioned for us which help us to understand their significance. Let us look at a few:
Virtue 1 –
27 times more reward!
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar رضي الله عنه says that he heard our beloved Nabi ﷺ saying:
“The prayer offered in congregation is twenty-seven degrees more rewardable than a prayer offered by a single person.” (Bukhari, Muslim)
Virtue 2 –
Angels visit those who frequent the Masjid when they are absent.
Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah رضي الله عنه narrates that our beloved Nabi ﷺ said:
“The Masjids have pegs [i.e. people who habitually frequent them, like how pegs cling on to what they are attached to]. The angels are their companions. If they are absent the angels search for them, and if they become sick the angels visit them, and if they are in need the angels assist them.” (Ahmad)
Virtue 3 –
Allah Ta’ala mentions your name specifically.
“… those persons who assemble in the house among the houses of Allah (mosques) and recite the Book of Allah and they learn and teach the Qur’an (among themselves) there would descend upon them tranquillity and mercy would cover them and the angels would surround them and Allah mentions them in the presence of those near Him.. ” (Muslim)
Virtue 4 –
Each step towards the Masjid brings reward and washes away sins.
Our beloved Nabi ﷺ has said:
For every step taken towards the masjid in the state of wudhu one sin is forgiven, one reward is gained and one stage is elevated in the hereafter. (Sahih Bukhari)
Virtue 5 –
The people who frequent the Masjid testify their Imaan.
Our Beloved Nabi ﷺ has said:
“When you see a man frequenting the Masjid, then testify to his faith. Indeed Allah, Most High, said: The Masjid shall be maintained by those who believe in Allah and the Last day (9:18).” (Tirmidhi)
Virtue 6 –
Most loved place by Allah Ta’ala.
Sayyiduna Abu Huraira رضي الله عنه reported that our beloved Nabi ﷺ said:
” The parts of land dearest to Allah are its mosques, and the parts most hateful to Allah are markets.” (Muslim)
Virtue 7 –
The person attached to the Masjid and frequenting it will be under the shade of Allah Ta’ala’s throne.
Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah رضي الله عنه reported:
Our beloved Nabi ﷺ said, “Seven are (the persons) whom Allah Ta’ala will give Shade of His Throne on the Day when there would be no shade other than His Throne’s Shade: A just ruler; a youth who grew up worshipping Allah; a man whose heart is attached to mosques;…” (Sahih Bukhari)
Virtue 8 –
Reward of Haji in Ihram.
One who performs wudhu at home then proceeds to the masjid for fardh Salah secures the reward of a Haji in the state of ihram. (Abu Dawud)
Virtue 9 –
The du’a of an angel!
Allah Ta’aala will order an angel to make du’a for us, with the words, ‘Oh Allah forgive him, Oh Allah have mercy upon him’ (based on a hadeeth found in Sahih Al-Bukhari)
Virtue 10 –
A house is built in Paradise.
Whoever builds a Masjid for (the sake of) Allah, be it small or large, then Allah will build a house for him in Paradise.” (Tirmidhi)
Virtue 11 –
Allah Ta’ala will love him and protect him.
Sayyiduna Abu Sa’id Al Khudri رضي الله عنه reported that Rasulullah ﷺ said:
“Whomsoever loves the Masjid, Allah will love him [by protecting him].” (Al Mu’jamul Awsat)
